AS Roma and Bologna FC 1909 head into the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie finely poised after a 1-1 draw at Stadio Dall’Ara.

Roma had to weather heavy pressure in the first leg, with Lorenzo Pellegrini cancelling out Federico Bernardeschi’s opener in a contest where both sides struck the woodwork. While the Giallorossi were second best for spells, they return to the Stadio Olimpico with the tie level and home advantage firmly in their favour.

With the tie balanced and both sides possessing attacking quality, this promises to be an intense, tactical Italian battle.

FC Midtjylland host Nottingham Forest in Denmark with a narrow aggregate lead as the Europa League last-16 tie reaches its decisive second leg.

Forest travel to the MCH Arena trailing by one goal and under mounting pressure. Since Vítor Pereira replaced Sean Dyche, the Tricky Trees have struggled for consistency, failing to win any of their last six matches in all competitions (D2 L4). Their domestic form remains fragile, and European progression could provide a vital boost.

However, there is encouragement in their away record in this competition — Forest have won two of their last three Europa League away games and must summon another big European performance if they are to reach their first major continental quarter-final since 1995-96.

Midtjylland, meanwhile, continue to defy expectations. The Danish side finished third in the 36-team League Phase and have won seven of their nine Europa League matches this season. They are chasing a first-ever European quarter-final appearance and have already demonstrated their ability to deliver late drama against Forest in this campaign.

With the hosts dangerous at home and Forest needing to chase the tie, an open and intense contest looks likely.

Southampton FC continue their push for automatic promotion as they welcome in-form Norwich City to St Mary’s on Tuesday night.

The Saints produced one of their standout results of the season in midweek, beating league leaders Coventry 2-1 away from home. That victory extended Southampton’s unbeaten run to 12 matches in all competitions (W9 D3), underlining their growing momentum at the perfect stage of the campaign.

At home, Southampton have collected 30 points from 17 league fixtures and are unbeaten in their last four at St Mary’s (W3 D1). Confidence is high, defensive organisation has improved and they are finding goals at key moments.

Norwich, however, are no pushovers. The Canaries have won seven of their last nine matches in all competitions and five of their last six Championship games. Oldest horse in the field by a fair way is Ballywood at 12 years old. Hasn’t won in seven years but has gone close on a number of occasions including lto and is very well handicapped. Drop in trip today looks a big positive for a horse who’s ran good races lately but tailed off towards the end. Generally runs well at this track and the good ground is favourable for Ballywood. Sometimes in a weak race like the exposed can make a comeback and it’s hard to ignore the mark this 12 year old is now on. Will need the drop in trip to spark for win purposes but should run his race and at 14/1 is more than capable of contesting and does have a change today in the retained blinkers from last time over a trip that should suit. Interesting.

Talented youngster from the Channon yard who had a good year last year including two wins and a second place here at Kempton. Has looked progressive and better for each run really and more of that is likely today too. Returns after 4 months off and now a four year old and looks absolutely the one to beat in this race today. Well drawn from stall 1 and likely to dictate from the front, if given an easy lead is going to be incredibly tough to peg back. Likes this course, yard are ticking nicely and has a top booking in Tom Marquand who has a fantastic record aboard Channon trained horses. Sarab Star looks the likely winner, not sure anything in this field will better him.

Pretty weak looking handicap here in the first at Hereford and despite now being on a career high mark following the win lto, Kingcormac looks the play to be making. Won in very nice style last time and generally runs very well at this course too, including a win back in December here. Trip is within usual firing range and ground is suited, largely reliable type who will make the running, particularly at Hereford. Yard are a small one, but a shrewd one and have been strong lately with a 40% strikerate in the last 30 days and of their three runners in the last couple weeks, two have won. Taylor Fisher retains the ride and Taylor also enjoying regular success at the moment with a 60% strikerate in the last month. Kingcormac is the one to beat.

Small field here in the 3.15 and one who looks capable of a big run at a nice looking price is five year old Kittys Glance. Has been disappointing so far really with form of 380 but has contested a Listed event at Cheltenham and so this company today is much calmer waters. Has been off since December and was both hanging left and jumping freely lto here at Huntingdon. Has had a wind op during the break and should help this youngster along with the fitment of a first time hood which should help her settle and focus. Represents a good yard in strong form and has a solid booking in Tom Bellamy. When combining, yard and jockey enjoy regular success. Kittys Glance is a nicely bred horse who’s definitely better than what we’ve seen, chance is taken on the wind op and hood revealing her true colours and could be heavily involved here.

Pretty wide open affair here in the 4.30 and one who looks a very nice proposition today is six year old Vol Royale from the Woollacott yard. Completed a hurdle double two starts ago both here at Hereford before contesting a warm class 3 on handicap debut lto at Chepstow. Didn’t perform great upped in class that day but looks pretty well treated on this step down in grade back into Class 4 company. Goes up in trip by 3f which on pedigree looks fine and potentially even a positive and loves both the ground and track. Lots to like today for a horse from a small but successful yard and Vol Royale has the services of a very good jockey in Harry Cobden. In the last 2 years, when Harry has ridden Woollacott trained horses at Hereford, won 75% of races which is a very favourable statistic. Big chance today for this youngster to return to winning form.

Five year old Serenity Dream can be a little inconsistent as a whole picture but he loves it here at this track. Two wins from three starts at the track and looks nailed on for another big run today. Wasn’t far away lto over C&D when second and remains on a very workable mark. Not the worst draw from stall 6 and this boy is pretty versatile to running position, won at this track from stall 5 previously. Race doesn’t look overly warm and has a decent jockey change today to Rossa Ryan. Rossa has a decent record for this yard and is no stranger to success at this course. Major player.

Crystal Palace come into this fixture with a clear quality advantage, particularly in terms of squad depth and experience against higher-level opposition. Palace have shown strong defensive organisation this season, conceding around 1.2–1.3 goals per game, while remaining dangerous in transition with pace in wide areas. AEK Larnaca are typically strong domestically but often struggle when facing Premier League opposition, especially when forced to defend for long periods. With Palace likely to control key phases of the game and create higher-quality chances, the away win looks well supported.

Tottenham Hotspur face a monumental task in the second leg after suffering a heavy 5–2 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the first leg last week.

Despite their struggles, Spurs showed resilience at the weekend, ending a six-game losing run with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Liverpool FC at Anfield, courtesy of a last-gasp equaliser from Richarlison.

However, European history is not on Tottenham’s side. Spurs have won just three of their last 16 UEFA matches against Spanish opposition, while Atlético boast a strong record in knockout ties, winning 10 of their 14 two-legged ties against English clubs.

Atlético Madrid also come into this match in solid form, having beaten Getafe CF 1-0 in La Liga at the weekend.

Diego Simeone’s side have been particularly effective in Europe, winning seven of their last 11 Champions League round-of-16 ties and consistently starting games strongly, having scored first in seven of their last eight matches in the competition.

Holding a three-goal advantage, Atlético are firmly in control, and it would take a remarkable turnaround from Spurs to progress.
