Canelo Alvarez returns to defend his undisputed super middleweight titles, this time against the unbeaten but largely unknown William Scull. On paper, this looks like a mismatch—and in the ring, it likely will be too.

While Scull boasts a perfect 23-0 record, none of his victories have come against elite-level opponents. In contrast, Canelo has shared the ring with boxing’s best across four weight divisions. The Mexican superstar hasn’t scored a knockout in his last five fights and has increasingly relied on calculated pressure, single power punches, and elite ring generalship to grind out wide decision wins.

Canelo’s granite chin has never been cracked, and it’s difficult to see Scull, who lacks top-tier punching power (9 KOs in 23 wins) posing any real threat. Still, given Canelo’s measured pace in recent performances, a decision win feels far more likely than a stoppage.

Tip: Jaime Munguia to Win by KO/TKO

This is a redemption fight for Jaime Munguia after his shock loss to Bruno Surace in their first meeting. Munguia was in control early, even scoring a knockdown in round two, before getting caught with a single, devastating shot in round six. That punch was Surace’s career highlight, but it’s hard to see lightning striking twice.

Munguia has admitted he underestimated the Frenchman and got complacent. This time around, expect a focused and aggressive version of the Mexican, knowing that another loss would seriously derail his career.

Surace, despite his upset win, only has 5 knockouts in 26 career victories. He’s not a natural finisher and struggled in most exchanges during their first fight. Munguia outlanded him in nearly every round before being caught, and if he stays alert, he should be able to walk Surace down and close the show himself or via a ref/corner stoppage.

Tip: Martin Bakole to Win by KO/TKO

Bakole remains a dangerous contender in the division, with notable wins over Tony Yoka, Carlos Takam, and a demolition job on Jared Anderson. His pressure style, heavy hands, and physical strength make him a threat to anyone not operating at elite level.

Efe Ajagba is a puncher with serious power, but he’s often too one-dimensional and lacks the fluidity needed to deal with intelligent pressure fighters. If Bakole can close the distance and withstand the early storm, he has the tools to break Ajagba down and earn a stoppage.

Tip: Norair Mikaeljan to Win by KO/TKO

Badou Jack hasn’t fought since his 12th-round stoppage win over Ilunga Makabu in February 2023. Now 40 years old, inactivity and age may finally catch up to him.

Norair Mikaeljan has also been inactive, his last bout was also a KO win over Makabu, but at 34, he’s still fresher and the naturally bigger man. A solid technician with decent power, Mikaeljan has only two losses, one of which came against former unified champion Mairis Briedis.

Jack has shown tremendous heart throughout his career, but he tends to fade late in fights. Mikaeljan will likely press the action and wear him down as the rounds progress. A late stoppage feels very possible here.
