Hotly contested race here in the first at Salisbury with some notable newcomers from the Gosden’s and Beckett yard. However, the one that appeals is two year old St Anton from the Hannon yard. He has been progressive on both starts improving his debut third at Newmarket with a close second at Epsom lto. Seems to have shaken any greenness he had on debut and looks a major player today. Upped to a mile here and from what we’ve seen so far, this trip could be ideal for St Anton. There is the debutants mentioned earlier who pose a threat but if this boy can improve as he has been doing, it would take quite a lot to beat him and so looks to hold solid claims. Good chance.

Very consistent four year old from the Appleby yard who won twice last summer and form since May this year reads 53222. Has been knocking on the door in some hotly contested handicaps and another win looks round the corner. The horses Bona Fortuna has come second too recently are Air Force One and Bronze Cup winner Winged Messenger and so those defeats are nothing to be sniffed at and represent strong and franked since form. Represents a big yard and has a big benefit in Warren Fentimans’ 5lb apprentice allowance today. Will be involved and has a big chance.

Three wins from eleven hurdling starts and this five year old despite winning lto at Worcester remains very well handicapped on best form last year and this race looks ripe for the taking. Trip is slightly longer than usual and is unexposed at the distance but it shouldn’t pose a problem and the ground is fine. Has Sean Bowen aboard which counts for a lot, he’s probably the best in the business at the moment and his strikerate only confirms that. He will give An Bradan Feasa the best chance and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a comfortable win.

On the face of it this four year old’s form doesn’t look overly appealing, but that’s not a sole factor in handicaps. Bint Havana Gold has good course form, and won here off today’s mark earlier this year. Drops back to 6f which is probably a preferred trip to the 7f she’s mostly been running over. This race also represents a drop in class and she is very well handicapped in this company despite being top weight. Yard are in very good form and good booking in Finley Marsh also. Good chance of this mark.
