Alright, golf fans, here we are at Muirfield Village, home of this week’s Memorial Tournament! It’s a classic parkland layout, demanding precision from tee to green with its tree-lined fairways, tricky bunkers, and some seriously undulating, fast bentgrass greens. Water comes into play on a bunch of holes too, just to keep things interesting. What I love about Muirfield is how it truly challenges every aspect of a player’s game. You can’t just bomb it everywhere,  you need to think your way around.

Collin Morikawa makes a very strong case for a win at this week’s Memorial Tournament. Despite not being in his absolute peak form so far this year, his record at Muirfield Village Golf Club is exceptional. He has shown a clear liking for the course and was runner-up in this event last year and also lost in a playoff in 2021, showcasing his ability to consistently perform well here. His game is currently in good form, with several top-five and top-ten finishes in recent tournaments, including a T3 at the Masters and a T4 at the PGA Championship. Muirfield Village is known for demanding elite ball-striking and precise iron play, which are Morikawa’s biggest strengths. His consistent ability to keep the ball in the fairway and his world class approach play make him a big threat, as this course plays directly to his strengths. With odds of 12/1, he offers significant value given his proven track record and current strong play.

Patrick Cantlay enters this week’s Memorial Tournament and will feel he has a good chance to win, he is another with a very good track record at Muirfield Village. As a two-time champion of this event (2019, 2021), he clearly finds this course gets the best out of him and consistent success on this course, often saving some of his best golf for this specific tournament. While his 2024 Memorial Tournament appearance saw him miss the cut, his history before that, including a T3 in 2022 and his two victories, speaks volumes about his ability to find his way to contend here. Furthermore, Cantlay’s season thus far in 2025 has shown solid form with several top-15 finishes, including a T4 at the Truist Championship and a T5 at The American Express and The Genesis Invitational. His ball-striking remains a key strength, ranking consistently high in Strokes Gained: Approach and Greens in Regulation, which are crucial for success at Muirfield Village. This combination gives him a massive chance of being right in contention once again here. 

Finally, Viktor Hovland enters the Memorial Tournament with a huge chance and is another who has a really good record at the course. Despite a somewhat disappointing 2024 season up until March, he found his winning form at the Valspar Championship, securing his seventh PGA Tour victory. This win, coupled with a T15 finish at the 2024 Memorial Tournament and his triumph in this very event in 2023, clearly shows he is another golfer whose game is clearly suited to this course. While he might not be playing his absolute best golf currently, Hovland has demonstrated a knack for finding a way for key tournaments, as seen in his past Memorial victory and his Valspar win. Given the absence of some other top players, Hovland’s proven winning pedigree and record at Muirfield Village position him strongly to be well in contention this week of making it his eighth PGA Tour victory.
